This is our first blog and I thought I would try to give you weekly updates on what it is we do, welcome thoughts and insights. So what does a Flood and Fire Technician actually do?

 

There is no simple answer to that question I'm afraid. All I can say is no two days are ever that same. We see people when they are at probably one of the lowest points in their life, we see people that have had their homes/lives ripped apart by a flash flood coming into their home after a storm, a burst pipe causing ceilings to fall down over their furniture clothing etc or it could be a devastating fire, that just wipes out everything. Or does it?

 

We at Robertson Restoration have a success rate of 96.3% of restoring contents that have been damaged by Flood or Fire. Items that you would look at and say "there is no way that can be saved" but in most cases we can save it. We know that many items have sentimental value and means way more to the individual than just replacing. We have invested heavily in technology to allow us to save way more and stop things going to landfill than ever before.

 

When a technician goes to site either a domestic or commercial property their first role is to ensure the customer is ok, we forget about the issue with the property to start with and make sure they are ok first and foremost, what is it that matters to them most, we will do our upmost to sort that for them. We will remove any damage items for restoration, furniture, clothing, bedding, pots, pans, crockery, artwork what it may be.

 

Contents would be stored at our secure facility until they are ready to go back to the property. Once the damage areas are cleared we will be able to deal with the actual buildings aspect, with mould being a bigger issue than ever before we when needed would sample, analyse under lab conditions, treat and remove. Install drying equipment, dehumidifiers, air movers or target drying systems. Once the areas have returned to normal levels we would issue a drying certificate (guarantee) to say ready for reinstatement works. On top of all that we also have to deal with leaks that have gone undiscovered (trace and access), removals and storage, trauma scene clean ups.

 

So no two days are ever the same.
